I know that all the books and websites and leaflets and old wives – in fact, everyone – say not to push a toddler into potty training, but Little O’s suddenly developed refusal to go on the potty is driving me to distraction.
He was doing so well and had even earned a small gift by filling up his first sticker chart after peeing on the potty so well. But now when I ask him if he wants to try and get a sticker by peeing in the potty, he refuses. Point blank. And the times when he can be persuaded to sit on it, he doesn’t pee. And have more than a sneaking suspicion that he is holding back.
Any tips on how to encourage him? I really don’t want to push him as I know just how stubborn these toddlers can be – and I feel we’d be taking some massive backward steps – but I also really don’t want him still in nappies this winter, aged three and a half. Or worse, deciding that he wants to start potty training in the middle of snowsuit season.
Is there actually anything I can do though?
