An English Mamma in Stockholm: toddler potty training sticker chartAs I mentioned briefly yesterday, we have started potty training Little O. We’ve been doing a gradual process of introducing him to the potty and “big boy pants” and the idea of earning stickers for peeing on the potty.

So far, he’s had good days and bad. Some days he wants to wear his “big boy pants” but then has an accident and wants to return straight to nappies. We have obliged him in these cases as he can be quite stubborn and we don’t want him to dig his heels in and refuse to try the potty. He has been given a sticker each time that he has successfully peed on the potty but most of these times he has done so because we’ve encouraged him onto the potty, rather than because he has asked.

This weekend, however, we had a breakthrough. He wore his “big boy pants” for most of the day on Sunday, earned three stickers and even at the times he was wearing a nappy, he let us know that he had peed. We were so proud. It feels like he has made great progress from starting just over a week ago with sitting on the potty just before bed.

Let’s see how this week goes. Any tips for potty training boys? I’ve heard it can be a longer process than for girls!
